CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

2024 FIELD BOTANISTS OF ONTARIO STUDENT AWARD

The Field Botanists of Ontario (FBO) is a non-profit organization founded in 1984 to promote the appreciation and study of Ontario’s wild plants. The FBO student award is granted annually to a student or recent graduate in recognition of their outstanding research and contributions to field botany in Ontario. In addition to receiving a $1,000 award, the winner will present their research at the FBO’s annual general meeting in September and have a summary of their research published in the Ontario Plant Press.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must be a current student or have graduated from a recognized university or college after August of 2023. The research project submitted must be completed while the applicant is a student. Past recipients of the FBO Student Award are not eligible.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Applicants may submit an application only once per year.

Applicants are to submit either:

  • A two-page summary of their research or

  • A published article about their research.

Submissions will also include (these can be submitted separately from the 2-page summary):

  • The applicant's name

  • Contact information (mailing address, email and/or phone number)

  • School, major and anticipated graduation date

  • Date that the study was completed or expected to be completed

  • Research topic/title

  • Advisor/supervisor’s name

Submissions are to be sent to awards.fbo@gmail.com no later than July 31st, 2024. Please ensure that attachments do not exceed 10 MB in size.

Submissions will be judged by the FBO’s executive committee. The recipient will be contacted in late August or early September with a notice of award and instructions for claiming the award and presenting their research. Note that the recipient is required to write a one to two-page article summarizing their research for the Fall/Winter issue of the Ontario Plant Press, which must be submitted by October 31st, 2024.
