Call for Submissions: 2025 FIELD BOTANISTS OF ONTARIO STUDENT AWARD
The Field Botanists of Ontario (FBO) is a non-profit organization founded in 1984 to promote the appreciation and study of Ontario’s wild plants. The FBO student award is granted annually to a student or recent graduate in recognition of their outstanding research and contributions to field botany in Ontario. In addition to receiving a $1,000 award, the winner will present theirresearch to FBO members, and have a summary of their research published in the Ontario Plant Press.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be a current student or have graduated from a recognized university or college after August of 2024. The research project submitted must be completed while the applicant is a student. Past recipients of the FBO Student Award are not eligible.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Applicants may submit one application per year.
Applicants are to submit either:
• A two-page summary of their research, or
• A published article about their research.
Along with the summary or article, applicants should include:
• The applicant's name and full contact information (mailing address, email and/or phone number)
• The name of the applicant’s school, program, and anticipated graduation date
• Date that the study was completed or the expected completion date
• Research topic/title
• Name and contact information for the applicant’s advisor/supervisor
Submissions are to be sent to awards@fieldbotanistsofontario.com no later than July 31st, 2025. Please ensure that attachments do not exceed 10 MB in size. Receipt of submissions will be acknowledged by e-mail.
Submissions will be judged by the FBO’s executive committee. The successful applicant will be contacted in late August or early September to notify them of their award, and to discuss next steps for claiming the award, presenting their research, and publishing their research summary (due October 31st, 2025).
